I've had hsv1 genital for 15 years. After I was with my last partner (who had hsv2 genital), I broke out in a few bumps on my pubic area. This was accompanied with moderate itching. Two of the bumps became sores. I went to doctor and was put on valacyclovir (1 week) which helped slightly. Sores healed but bumps and itching returned. Took meds (another week) but bumps/ itching return..they are in other spots but still pubic area. Haven't been sexually active in 6 weeks..not sure what to do?

Some studies have shown generation 2 antihistamines to be as effective as anti-virals in suppressing hsv outbreaks and skin symptoms. The main thing you need is to curb your body's histamine response to the virus. Try doubling up an H1 otc like Cetirizine (Zyrtec) with an H2 like Ranitidine (Zantac). You most likely got a new infection of Hsv2 genital and it will take a while to build antibodies to the new virus which will wreak havoc until forced into latency.
